ZiboCastor No.1

ZiboCastor No.1 is a middle early-maturing hybrid variety bred by Zibo Academy of Agricultural Sciences , using early-maturing female line as female parent and using disease-resistant self-bred line which has big seeds as male parent. It was certified by the Crop Variety Approval Committee of Shandong province in April 1996.
1. Yield: Ordinarily the yield is 3750kg/ha. Its yield can be above 4500kg/ha. by high-yield cultivation. It was tested in the national castor new variety regional trial between 1990 and 1991, the results indicated that its yield occupied the first place among the 8 testing varieties, which was 13.15% higher than that of Zhebi No.1 (CK). South testing group: Its yield occupied the first place among the 7 testing varieties, which was 19.2% higher than that of Hongganta (CK).
2. Characteristics: The plant is 200cm high which has 5-6 branches. One plant produces 5-8 fruit ears, which look like cylinders. The fruit ear is 40-50cm long. There are few thorns on the capsules. The seed is elliptical with chocolatebrown stripes on its coat. The weight of 100 seeds is 37.5g. Kernal rate (kernals /seeds ×100%)  is 78.2% and oil content of kernals is 62.3%.
3. Key points of cultivation: It is suitable to be planted in all regions north of Changjiang River in China. In Shandong province, the sowing time is between the last ten-day period of March and the first ten-day period of April. Row spacing is 90-100cm and spacing in the rows is 60-70 cm. Population of plants is 12000-15000/ha.
